In Texas, obtaining a food manager certificate is simple. All you have to do is finish a training program and pass an exam to get a food manager card that is valid in Houston, Dallas, San Antonio, Austin, or anywhere else in Texas. It is not, however, valid outside of Texas.
The Texas Certified Food Manager Exam and Course has been developed to meet the Texas Department of State Health Services accreditation requirements by training experts with the guidance of health department food safety officials and food management professionals. It is periodically updated to stay current with food codes and to improve quality.
If you work as a food manager outside of Texas, then you need to take the ANSI-CFP Food Protection Manager Course and Exam instead. The ANSI-CFP program covers the same materials and is valid in all 50 states, including Texas, but it requires the virtual remote proctored exam. The ANSI-CFP course requires you to use a computer with video and audio for the exam and to have a quite place to take the exam without any other people in the room.
